The Orange Packing House: 1952 Candle
It's 1952 and the air is salty-sweet...
All the oranges near the California coast are ripening, and my Grandma Jesse is beginning her very first steady job at the Orange Packing House. I grew up listening to her stories about her time there and all the friends she met. She loved it so much that even today, at 104 years old, she still talks about it! That's her on the label, the first girl in the line-up. I love her smile. Doesn't she look so joyful?
This is the first hand-poured candle we've done in-house at Ink & Arrow, and I wanted it to be special. It'll take you away to a simpler time when orange season brought with it the joy of being with friends, making fresh orange juice and spending the evening with no phone and no computer--just the summer evening breeze drifting through the door as music plays on the crackling radio. And for extra added specialness, there's an orange slice and a sprinkle of herbs and flowers on top to make you smile. Just like Jesse that day in 1952.
