The Key to Bag End | Live Inside the Story Set
A brass key to a round door.
Bilbo keeps the key to Bag End close (not as close as a ring when he finds one, but that's another story). He keeps it close because it's been in the family for generations, and because several family relations are after it!
What I love about this set, is that its the perfect little piece of Bag End to put on your bookshelves next to all your Lord of the Rings books. You can use it other places too, but I do love making bookshelves come to life!
Here's what's included in this set:
- Vintage, carved wood trivet
- Antique, green bottle (uncorked)
- Antique brass key
- Antique, clear ink bottle (with cork)
- Antique brass pin with dark green polished stone leaf with faux pearl
- Pouch of bright green reindeer moss to finish off the look!
The vintage carved wood trivet is perfectly hobbity. Bilbo's house is filled with carved wood treasures, and this looks like an heirloom that wood me in his home. It's the perfect backdrop to the bottles, key and moss (be aware that there is no stand, so you'll have to either lean it on something or put it on a stand). Or you can use it as a platform to display all the little pieces.
The antique bottles are just what you'd find lying around his house and cluttering up his table. The old, clear ink bottle is squatty and contrasts well to the taller, tiny (and I mean tiny!) green bottle. When I saw the green bottle in an antique store, I snagged it right away. The green color matched the moss in The Shire in my opinion, and I loved the pointed arch design on it's sides, like windows in a castle.
The antique brass key matches the brass doorknob on Bilbo's round, freshly painted, green door. It just said Bag End to me when I saw it.
The brass pin. My goodness. When I spotted it, all I could think of was the Lothlorien leaf pin all the hobbits receive from the elves. It's vintage, not sure which era, but it's so delicate looking and is perfect for both wearing and display. Try putting it on a scarf, hat, jacket collar, bag, or pin board. Or just keep it with the set to enhance the look! (Or just keep it with the set when you're not wearing it, there's no rules here!)
Couple more ideas for use:
- On your desk! It's a perfect backdrop to warm up your work space. Who says your desk has to be all work and no imagination? If I still worked in a cubicle, this would be next to my computer in a heartbeat.
- Among your plants!! Oh goodness. How perfect. You could put it among a clutch of different pots with swirly vines and large leaves.
- On your coffee table! Do you have a coffee table "vignette" (a little gathering of items that tell a story)? I always change it up, but there's usually something in my round round basket that makes a good story and conversation starter. I'd put a plant with it still to give it some height and extra life! So cute!!
This set is close to my heart and I know it will be close to yours too. It'll make you smile whenever you look at it. Enjoy, fellow hobbit!!
PLEASE NOTE: This set is not meant as a toy and has tiny parts that can be a choking hazard, please keep it away from little ones!
