Flying in style.
Plane travel was all class and style at one time. Gloves, a fashion purse and the feeling of doing something new and modern were what accompanied you onto a flight. And did you know you'd eat from a glass dish? How fancy.
This set came together unexpectedly. It was when I found the dish that it all started. Then slowly, the special treat of flying in the 60's sparked my curiosity and imagination. To them, it wasn't long ago that people only crossed the big blue on ocean liners. Many still remembered the salty air and the long week's journey. But now you could step onto an airplane, be served a couple meals, and you'd land within hours at your exotic destination!
Here's what's included in this set:
- 1960's era TWA airplane meal dish
- Vintage gloves
- 1960's era orange purse with the cutest lining inside (see photo!)
- 1960's era transistor radio with sleeve
- 1960's era travel pamphlet
The TWA airplane meal dish is made of glass, has a clear bottom and yellowish sides. The bottom of the dish has the letters "TWA" engraved into it. I adore this dish, (and actually bought two so I could keep one!). You can use it as a trinket dish or desk accessory, or it works adorably in a guest room, especially with a travel theme! It's a great conversation piece and beautiful, tangible part of history. In fact, I bought it from a retired pilot who used to work for TWA!
The vintage gloves are in such good condition you'll be tempted to wear them out! They're clean, with no frayed edges, and look so cute on top of books, old magazines, or simply laying over the TWA dish.
The vintage, 1960's era purse can still be worn out and give an outfit an unexpected pop of color. The interior lining has a great 1960's pattern, and I have my suspicions it was replaced at some point because it's in such great condition. The exterior of the purse shows more of its age, but of course, that's what I like about it!
Oh the transistor radio. It makes me think of the song "Brown Eyed Girl," you know the part? "Whatever happened to Tuesday and so slow? Going down the old mine with a transistor radio..." Before iPhones had all your custom playlists, you'd take your transistor radio on the road and listen to the crackly version of your favorite song. The one in this set has a nice, large, silver speaker (love!) and still has its black, protective sleeve.
The travel brochure to India, Ceylon and Pakistan, finishes off this set that's ready for a vintage adventure.
Whether you actually choose to use some of the pieces or just keep them together to make a statement in your home--it's super cute displayed in a shadow box, especially in a bedroom!--this set will take you back to a time when stepping onto an airplane was thrilling, new, and classy!
PLEASE NOTE: This set is not meant as a toy and has tiny parts that can be a choking hazard, please keep it away from little ones!
